About This Blog

Hello and welcome to Pearls & Curls, a blog where I dive into deep discussions about sorority life in the South, where being involved in Greek Life is arguably the most popular thing to do during your collegiate career and can be strange, interesting and even very controversial at times.

In the last several years, southern sororities and all their grandeur have become quite the phenomenon. Whether it be from viral memes like this door stack courtesy of the University of Texas or seeing thousands of Bid Day photos from Instagram famous girls down south, chances are you’ve been thrown into the world of southern sororities before.

Trust me, we’ve all been down the rabbit hole that is watching recruitment week videos. It’s not just you.

First, though, let me introduce myself. My name is Jordyn Johnson, and I am a junior at West Virginia University double-majoring in journalism and multidisciplinary studies. I am also a sister of the Iota Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta here on WVU’s campus, making me somewhat knowledgeable on the subject of sororities.

While I’m definitely not an expert in the field, it really interests me how much different some of these big, southern state school sororities are than my own here at WVU. I also think, just from being one of those haters previously, that sororities tend get a bad rap from the stereotypes surrounding them, so I want to use this space is an opportunity to address those stereotypes and explore whether there’s actually truth to some of of them.

People can be extremely opinionated about the subject of Greek Life, so feel free to leave comments and express your opinions on my posts.

I’d love to know your thoughts and feelings!
